Breast surgery

Breast Surgery in Istanbul

Breast surgery is a highly personal decision. I help you understand the main options, prepare for a preliminary review, and coordinate your visit to Istanbul.

Treatments I Can Help You Explore

Each option needs an individual assessment by a licensed surgeon.

Augmentation and Lift

  • Breast augmentation — increases breast volume with implants or fat transfer.
  • Breast lift (mastopexy) — raises and reshapes sagging breasts.

Reduction and Combined Plans

  • Breast reduction — reduces breast size and weight.
  • Combined procedures — a lift may be planned together with augmentation when suitable.

Good to Know

Breast implants are not lifetime devices, and many people need further surgery at some point to replace or remove them. If you have implants, tell the staff at every mammogram appointment, because extra views may be needed to see the breast tissue. Breast reduction can relieve problems such as back, neck, or shoulder pain, but it may affect breastfeeding in the future. Your surgeon discusses these points with you in detail.

Understanding Your Options

Augmentation

Implants or your own fat add volume and change shape. Breast implants are not lifetime devices; the longer you have them, the more likely you may need further surgery to replace or remove them.

Lift (Mastopexy)

Removes excess skin and raises the breast and nipple position. A lift can be combined with implants when more upper fullness is wanted.

Reduction

Reduces breast size and weight, often to relieve neck, back, or shoulder discomfort as well as for appearance.

Good to Know About Implants

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises that implants may need to be replaced or removed over time and that people with implants should follow their surgeon’s advice on check-ups. A rare type of lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) has been linked mainly to textured implants. Ask your surgeon which implant type is proposed, why, and how it will be documented for you.

Breastfeeding, pregnancies, and future weight changes can all affect results. Mention any plans for pregnancy before deciding on timing.

Preparing for Your Preliminary Review

The more complete your first message is, the more useful the surgeon’s preliminary opinion can be. You decide what to share, and everything is handled confidentially.

  • Photos from the front and both sides, standing straight, in good light
  • Your bra size now and the look you hope for
  • Any breast imaging, biopsies, or family history of breast cancer
  • For revision: details of previous implants (type, size, date) if you have them
  • Your general health, any long-term conditions, and medicines or supplements you take
  • Previous operations, especially in the same area
  • Whether you smoke or vape, since smoking slows healing and many surgeons ask you to stop before and after surgery
  • Your preferred travel dates, so planning can start early

Travel & recovery

Planning Your Trip

General guide before flying: 5–7 days after breast surgery

  • Your surgeon decides how long you should stay in Istanbul after the procedure. I plan the trip around that advice, not the other way around.
  • UK health guidance advises avoiding flights for 5 to 7 days after breast surgery, because surgery and long flights together raise the risk of blood clots.
  • Plan for a supportive surgical bra and a few days of limited arm movement and lifting.
  • A treatment trip is not a holiday. Expect to rest, avoid alcohol, strong sun, swimming, and long sightseeing days while you recover.
  • Ask before you book: where follow-up appointments take place, what happens if a complication occurs, and how aftercare is handled once you are home.
  • Standard travel insurance usually does not cover complications from planned surgery. Check what the clinic and your own policy cover.

How I Help

Three clear steps, from your first message to follow-up.

Step 1 — share your needs

1 — Share Your Goals

Tell me which treatment you are considering and, if you wish, share photos or medical reports.

Step 2 — preliminary review

2 — Preliminary Review

A licensed surgeon reviews your information and shares a preliminary opinion. This is not a diagnosis; the final plan follows an in-person examination.

Step 3 — understand your plan

3 — Plan, Travel, Follow-Up

If you decide to go ahead, I help organize appointments, share practical guidance on transfers and accommodation, and stay in touch after you return home.

More Breast Surgery Questions

Do breast implants last a lifetime?

No. Implants are not lifetime devices, and many people need further surgery at some point to replace or remove them. Your surgeon explains the follow-up recommended for your implant type.

Can I still have mammograms with implants?

Yes. Keep attending regular breast screening and tell the staff that you have implants, because additional views may be needed to see the breast tissue.

Will breast surgery affect breastfeeding?

It can. Implants may slightly reduce milk supply, and breast reduction or lift surgery may affect the ability to breastfeed. If you plan to breastfeed in the future, discuss this with your surgeon before surgery.

Do breast implants last a lifetime?

No. According to the FDA, breast implants are not lifetime devices. Some people need further surgery to replace or remove them, so ask your surgeon about long-term follow-up.

Can I combine a breast lift with implants?

Sometimes. A lift corrects position and excess skin, while implants add volume. Your surgeon decides whether one or two stages are safer for you.

Important

Breast procedures are medical decisions. Suitability, the final plan, and recovery are determined by the treating surgeon after an in-person examination. medtour.ist coordinates and guides; it does not provide medical treatment, and no result is guaranteed.
